Chilli Garlic Shrimp

Besides my Mom and Mother-in-law, I’ve learnt quite a lot of dishes from my sister Anu.  She is an awesome cook and the credit for this particular dish goes to her.  When we visited her,  she prepared this delicious stir fry which got done in no time at all.  I always stock a packet of peeled and deveined shrimp in my freezer and it comes in handy when I’m in a bind.  The end taste is superb given the minimal amount of effort that goes into it.

Ingredients

  • Shrimp - 1 lb, cleaned, deveined, tail off
  • Turmeric pwdr - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli pwdr - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Garlic - 5 cloves, finely minced
  • Green chillies - 5, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Cilantro for garnish

Instructions

1

Pat dry the washed deveined shrimp and put in a bowl.  To this, add the turmeric and chilli powders.  Set aside for a couple hours.

2

Heat a wok on high flame and put in the oil.

3

Put in mustard seeds and when they pop, add the minced garlic.

4

Fry till the garlic is golden brown and then put in the chopped chillies.

5

After a few seconds, put in the shrimp.

6

Stir fry on high heat for 3-4 minutes (until they turn opaque).

7

 Add salt to taste.

8

Turn off the heat and garnish with finely chopped cilantro, toss well and serve hot.

Notes

This dish can be served as an appetizer, just hand over some toothpicks to your guests. Can be served as a side dish for the main course.
